Tiivistelmä:From a personal perspective, there are few things as important to us as our careers. Yet, in wider discussion of business life, careers are often neglected. They seem to be self-centered details, personal by-products of little importance in the greater scheme of things. In viewing careers this way, the authors choose to see the company as the figure on which they focus, and the career as insignificant texture within it. The authors implicitly assume that through their strategizing, structuring, and organizational change processes, companies cause careers. They assume that evolving company structures create opportunities and pathways in which peoples' careers may be developed. The authors see people as striving to acquire company-relevant knowledge and to climb to senior positions in the company hierarchy.
