Tiivistelmä:In this study the authors research the topic of knowledge management as a competitive advantage and focus on the business actions that are needed to create the appropriate environment, infrastructure and organizational structure for knowledge creation, transfer and application. The topic is research through multiple case study method which is conducted on six Spanish firms that are recognized to have excellence and proactivity in matters of knowledge. The findings indicate that these companies use flexible, increasingly flat organizational forms that have fewer hierarchical levels which encourage communication and group work among employees. Thus the staff have a better opportunity to utilize their competencies, generating organizational routines and adding the value of their contributions because of the freedom of action they are given.
