| Tiivistelmä: | This paper investigates how different absences, 'temporary invisibility', from the workplace affects on perceptions of employee commitment and loyalty, and ultimately, on career success. For the investigation, 40 interviews from both women and men in a public sector agency in Australia were conducted. The findings suggest that absences result in negative evaluations and career penalties for many employees; not only for employees using gendered flexible work arrangements, but also for employees taking traditionally uncontested entitlement leaves. |
