| Tiivistelmä: | The EC declared l988 the European Cinema and Television Year (ECTVY) with the aim of developing European identity against American audiovisual invasion, and creating closer ties between the cinema and TV.The drop in cinema-going is due to TV's massive penetration and changes in lifestyles. Major cooperative efforts are needed to preserve European cultural standards and to compete with the U.S. Diversity of Europe must be kept while its divisive aspects must be abolished by creating a single audiovisual market. |
