| Tiivistelmä: | On 4 June 1996, the Parliament passed amendments to the banking law providing for significant liberalisation of foreign banks' activities. The new rules establish identical regime for operations of domestic and foreign financial institutions and lift the existing restrictions in this area. Foreign banks are granted right to establish subsidiaries, branches and representative offices. They are granted right to buy shares in domestic financial institutions, including majority stakes, in accordance with regulations to be elaborated by the Central Bank. |
