| Tiivistelmä: | This article deals with a number of issues related to financial instability in Latin America. First, it discusses from a macroeconomic research perspective policy issues such as the effectiveness of controls on capital inflows, the effect of exchange rate depreciation on output and the international transmission of the business cycle faced by the Latin American nations. Then it is argued that the economic research agenda on Latin America should not ignore history, since there, more so than elsewhere, there has been a self-destructing tendency for repeating history. |
