Tiivistelmä:The purpose of this article is to ascertain the extent to which western European countries have a body of law, whether in the form of constitutional, statutory or other legal provisions, prohibiting discrimination in employment on grounds of race. The findings show that only a handful of countries have comprehensive legal provisions prohibiting race discrimination in employment. The authors summarize the relevant provisions of international conventions, and draw attention to the absence of effective European Union action in this area.
