Tiivistelmä: | Five conditions are posited that determine whether new chief executive officers /CEOs/ can affect outcomes. Two are of organizational context: presuccession organizational performance and organizational size. Three are elements of event content: the force initiating a change in CEO, predecessor's disposition, the origin of a new CEO. Presuccession performance is an important predictor of board-initiated events. When presuccession performance bespeaks ineffective management and a board of directors acts by replacing a CEO, the market reacts favourably. Successions that result from a CEO's disability tend to meet with negative reactions. |
