| Tiivistelmä: | A new way to develop foreign managers for the Japanese MNC subsidiary office is proposed: hire non-Japanese employees through the head office to work for the parent company and repost them to their home countries as expatriates. Based on exploratory interviews conducted with personnel managers and foreign employees five specific factors to be sought after and developed within this new corps of managers are identified. The new approach to developing a cadre of foreign managers consists of four steps: 1. recruitment; 2. head office training and initial assignment; 3. assignment to the international division within the head office; 4. assignment back to home country or to a third country. An appraisal of this approach is offered. |
