Tiivistelmä:The idea of Japanese human resources management had been for a long time lifetime employment at a company. Workers joined a company straight out of school and stayed there until retirement. Now, the current worker shortage has created a "sellers' market" and Japanese workers have more opportunities to switch jobs. In 1987 Seiko-Epson Corp. hired 100 "mid-term" employees, people from other companies, this year even more, 300 mid-termers. As business is going up, more woman managers appear, even as company presidents, for example, at Shiseido Co, the large cosmetics corporation. Many financial service companies and banks are hiring more foreigners, transplanting them in Japan for a few years before overseas assignments.
