Tiivistelmä:ISO 9000 Quality standards play a key role for evaluating suppliers' economic performance, e.g. in the automotive industry. As to sustainability, the implementation of environmental (here as: env.) and social (as: soc.) standards could play a similar role. This survey aims to evaluate whether and to what degree env. and soc. standards have been implemented in the German car industry. Conducted in 2003, this survey yielded 111 usable questionnaires, equalling a response rate of 29 percent. It is shown that env. standards, especially ISO 14001, are already widely used. Howver, this is not the case for soc. standards. The soc. dimension of sustainability has been lacking in implementation so far.
