Tiivistelmä:The concept of strategic groups - different companies in the same field employing identical strategies - is not always sufficient to explain the competitive environment and company results. A long study of a high-tech industrial sector led to the creation of the strategic group concept to include that of company profiles. This new concept implies not only strategy but also the structure, the environment and the performance of companies. The questions raised concern company managers who either cannot move forward because they are not confident about their administrative, financial and/or technical means or take risks much exceeding their capacity.
