Tiivistelmä:Since 1980, sexual harassment has been considered a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Numerous court cases - and a 1986 Supreme Court decision - have pointed to hostile work environments in sexual harassment cases won by plaintiffs. It behoves employers to closely examine their organizational environment and take steps to remedy any problems. The constituents of a hostile work environment are examined. Arguments are presented that managers must clearly communicate standards of acceptable behaviour. Development of a policy prohibiting sexual harassment and of grievance procedures for reporting complaints is not sufficient protection from organizational liability.
