Tiivistelmä:A follow-up study on the effects of childhood home conditions, individual factors in youth, and job factors of subjective symptons of psychological distress is reported. The childhood data had been collected in the early 1960s from a representative sample of 1084 Finnish children. Seventy-seven per cent of the subjects responded to a questionnaire in 1985. Multiple regression analyses and linear structural analyses were used to examine relationships. The results show that task control and assistance from others at work had a direct effect on the prevalence of symptoms only for the less educated workers. Good and poor predictors of perceived health at work are identified. Health effects of some personal qualities are investigated.
