| Tiivistelmä: | This study investigates the cost implications from hypothetical cross-border bank mergers in the EU in light of claims that substantial cost savings may be expected as the result of the EU's Single Market Programme for financial services. The results suggest only limited opportunities for cost savings from big-bank mergers,its more likely to result an increase in total costs. The study concludes that large banks seeking economies through cross-border mergers should select their potential partners with care. |
