Tiivistelmä:European discussion focuses closely on (partial) labour market de-regulation to beat the constantly high (youth) unemployment. This paper argues that this perspective is too narrow, failing to account for existing national institutional (here as: inst.) differences. It is suggested that the focus should instead be on a combination of different inst. settings (as: c-d-i-sets.), rather than on single aspects. The labour market entry process and its determinants is investigated in three European countries, that is, West Germany, Italy and Great Britain (UK) which substantially differ in their c-d-i-sets: labour market regulation, and the education and training systems, hence displaying three distinct patterns of labour market entry. Country-specific information is reported.
