Tiivistelmä:Drawing on organizational learning theory, this paper explains how experience influences the propensity for emerging market (here as: e-mkt.) firms using an event history analysis of a sample of Latin American firms in the 1990s to enter developed markets (as: d-mkts.), and their likelihood (as: l-d.) of survival (as: s-vl). It is argued that d-mkts. experience is positively related to e-mkt. firms' entry and s-vl. in d-mkts. However, cognitive biases affect the roles played by other types of experience in entry decisions. Alliance experience with d-mkts. firms increases the l-d. of entry, however, decreasing the l-d. of s-vl. Failure experience in d-mkts. reduces the l-d. of entry, though increasing the l-d. of s-vl.
