RAW MATERIALS
METALS INDUSTRY

Kieli:eng
Tiivistelmä:As a result of huge structural changes, such as the radical shrinkage of the Soviet defense industry, vast quantities of nickel, zinc, aluminum, magnesium, potash, diamonds, and other critical materials are now being sold in the West at fire-sale prices. In fact, the challenge to Western raw materials suppliers is so formidable that they find themselves lowering production, laying off workers, and cutting back investment. One Western business, Reynolds Metals Company, has found a means of stemming the competitive flood with a form of intervention that should assist the economies of the newly independent states (NIS), give RMC a firm foothold in NIS markets, and perform an invaluable service for some of RMC's oldest customers - all with someone else's money.
