Originally set up in 1703 by order of Russia,s first architect of perestroika, Peter the Great, the exchange began the 20th century accounting for 90% of all Russian bond and equity trading. But in 1900 St Petersburg was still the country's capital, since when the city's exchange has been in almost constant decline. |
