| Tiivistelmä: | The Baltic states have witnessed an oil boom in recent years. The transit of Russian oil and oil products increased from 28.7 million tons per year in 1995 to 44.7 million tons in 1997. The bulk thereof is transhipped via Latvia, however Estonia's contribution has evidenced an impressive growth: from 4.3 million tons in 1995 to 11.2 million tons in 1997. But can it be maintained? Is it feasible to orient the development of the ports and transport infrastructure in the Baltic states for this potential burst of growth? |
