Tiivistelmä:This paper reports on an empirical study of patronage behavior, store loyalty, and store switching for grocery shopping , using scanner panel data. The results indicate that there may be sociodemographic segments that differ in shopping behavior in several ways. From managerial viewpoint the results indicate that switching can be highly symmetrical.Switching, although related to sociodemographics , is a more or less random event, implying that for consumers in general repositioning strategies based on sociodemographics are likely to have a minor impact at best. However, because shopping frequencies and the extent and nature of store switching are related to sociodemographics, managers can use the information to target those segments that are more likely to switch.
