Tiivistelmä:This study attempted to explain why social support (hereafter as: soc-supp.) is salient to computer professionalsÂ’ leaving intention (here as: l-int). It developed a model that posits that (i) soc-supp. is positively related to job satisfaction (here as: j-sat.), (ii) soc-supp. is negatively related to l-int, and (iii) social affiliation needs moderate the relationship btw. soc-supp. and l-int. The model was tested using data from a questionnaire. The results indicated that soc-supp. from supervisor and colleagues were negatively related to l-int. for computer professionals with high social affiliation needs, and that j-sat. mediated the relationship btw. soc-supp. and l-int. Soc-supp. from family and friends was not related to l-int, but it was positively related to j-sat.
