| Tiivistelmä: | Alternative conceptualizations of management are outlined and studies about the nature of managing people are reviewed. Alternative accounts of managerial work from several standpoints are examined for describing capitalist organization. Giddens' theory of structuring is analyzed which provides a valuable framework for the study of managerial work.Its logic is the duality of modality and structure in interactions. It is illustrated by empirical material. The illustration helps appreciate how the work of managers is both a medium and an outcome of the structural properties of a capitalist system. |
