Tiivistelmä: | This study examines the claim of the 'demise of bureaucracy' (henceforth for 'bureaucracy' as: br-cy.) and the emergence of the 'post-bureaucratic organization' (here as: 'p-b-org/s.') through a qualitative study of knowledge work (as: k-w.) including both the 'new economy' and traditional knowledge organizations (as: k-orgs). It is questioned whether k-w. is bureaucratically (as: brtly.) managed and controlled or post-brtly. by cultural self-management. It is found that the k-orgs. show many of the post-bureaucratic (as: br-tic.) features such as decentralization of responsibilities and a high degree of workers' autonomy. However, their autonomy and authority was limited by market (as: m-t.) forces. ... Individual workers' economic results were controlled by central management through br-tic. means. The main feature of organizational forms in the k-w. orgs. was therefore hybrid forms of professional br-cy. combined increasingly with elements of control by the m-t. Therefore, the 'p-b-org/s.' could better be understood as neo-liberal forms of organization, individualized and controlled by the m-t. (original in Norwegian) |
