Tiivistelmä:The article researches the HRM practice adoption across companies and its influence on firms' performance. An economics-based theory is formulated to explain the patter of variation in HRM practice adaptation. The model links HRM practices and firm performance, formulates an HRM input demand curve, formalizes the concept of strategic HRM, proposes new empirical tool for researching HRM, and generates insights and hypotheses on the relationship between firm performance and HRM. Furthermore, the theory suggests that some of the existing theories of HRM-firm relationship are misspecified, and posits that from a theoretical viewpoint the the effect of increased HRM on company performance in long-term competitive equilibrium is not positive but zero.
