Tiivistelmä:Based on data from four manufacturing sectors in 17 OECD countries, the relationship between R&D intensity, rate of innovation and growth rate of output is empirically investigated. The knowledge stock is found to be the main determinant of innovation. In addition, the R&D intensity is found to increase the rate of innovations in the chemicals, electrical and electronics, and drugs and medicine sectors, and the rate of innovation, in turn, is found to influence positively on the growth rate of output in all four sectors. Therefore, the results give strong support to non-scale endogenous growth theories.
