Tiivistelmä: | The border between the Republic of Karelia and Finland is the longest border Russia has with EU (700km). Trans-border cooperation is on the politician's agenda and investors are looking at the north-east of Europe as a starting point for the exploitation of resources in the Barents Sea Basin. But in what way does the EU look beyond its border with Russian Federation? The Republic of Karelia can best be described by its flag's colours: red, blue, green. The question of the republic is whether it can make sustainable use of its natural-cultural wealth and attractive location in order to become a meeting point between East and West in Northern Europe. |
