Tiivistelmä:In Finland, the operational environment of the private dental (hereafter as: prv-dnt.) industry was changed due to a dental care reform in 2001-2002. This study aims to describe and analyze practice (here as: prct./prcts.) performance (as: perf.) and to specify determinants of competitive advantages of prv-dnt. prcts. In addition, the outlook of the prtcs. is analyzed. 12 managers from the biggest dental prcts. were interviewed. Financial data from 2000 to 2005 were collected from 100 biggest prcts. The perf. and revenue growth was strong throughout the studied period. Intensity of competition was described as weak. The development of services was said to be driven by professional ambitions. Ageing of the workforce and labour shortage were the major obstacles to growth. The reform was not found to have major impact on dental prcts.
