| Tiivistelmä: | After the major industrial accidents in Pasadena, Texas, the occupational health and safety administration commissioned a study on safety and health issues involved in the use of contract workers in the USA petrochemical industry. Arguments are presented that the process of the study was as significant and revealing as the results of the study. Industry and labour representatives skirmished, as the former resisted the whole concept of the study and the latter retreated into a bunker mentality. A major shift in the values and strategies of the leaders in the American business and labour communities is needed to break out of the cycle of decline. Employees must be provided the supportive environment, information and training. |
