Tiivistelmä:The paper highlights Philp Herbst's thoughts about how networks can be developed as alternatives to hierarchical forms of organizing. Such networks can contribute to create autonomous groups in working processes. Based on the George Spencer Brown's "calculus of form", Herbst himself developed what he called an anti totalitarian locig opening up for studying phenomena which can describe insecurity and indeterminism in cognitive systems. To describe and observe social systems in general, Niklas Luhman also based his latter works on the fundament of Spencer Brown's "calculus of form". Both Luhmann and Herbst apply the "calculus of form" to the field of organizational theory. This paper shows how such a logic can contribute to develop new patterns (networks) of co-operation in organizations based on non-hierarchical forms (original in Norwegian).
