| Tiivistelmä: | In 1990 J. Womack and a team based at MIT in the USA published a book on the car industry called 'The Machine that Changed the World'. This book contrasted the traditional approach to mass production of cars still pursued by companies in the USA and in Europe with the new lean production methods developed by leading Japanese manufacturers. Most large scale manufacturing companies are now adopting variants of the lean production philosophy. In their latest article, the team outlined their vision of the so called lean enterprise of the future. The author deals extensively with their view. |
