While the term empowerment is often used because these changes are directed at increasing the contribution of individuals, in reality it may seem that empowerment is achieved by those who want it, or thrust upon the unwilling. The manner in which empowerment is developed greatly affects the individual's experience of being empowered. The authors of this article explain the advantages that empowerment can bring and look at how some managers have achieved it. |
