| Tiivistelmä: | This paper proposes a flow network oriented approach that hierarchically addresses the problem of cellular layout design. It consists of three major phases: utilize the shortest path method to rationalize the various flows into a master flow network, plan a flow pattern based on this flow network and designate the aisle structure for the system and locate and allocate cells around the flow pattern and the aisle structure within a restricted floor plan. The applicability of this approach as well as its effectiveness is illustrated by case studies. |
