Tiivistelmä:In an metaphor "elephant" is viewed as a large organization seeking to become more agile throughout its entire business. This article develops reasoning based around the ability of the "elephant" to engage others to do work that it is itself probably capable of performing, but for pure business and management reasons, it decides to outsource certain activities to others to conduct on its behalf. The "elephant" is therefore, enabled to continue to develop the activities that it does best. The paper considers next what the term outsourcing means. This is then followed by an evaluation of the growth of outsourcing, which is continued by with an analysis of the outsourcing benefits compared with the risks and problems potentially involved.
