Tiivistelmä:Transnational institutions meaning protocols, conventions, regimes and standards have an increasing effect on organizational practice. Recent literature on the origins and impacts of transnational institutions has not considered the context of the developing countries. In the article, a narrative case study of the diffusion of two institutional regimes in the Iranian civil aviation is presented. The case study illustrates an apparently smooth and uncontested embedding of the developed international aviation regime in the post-World War II Iran, and the challenges these institutions faced during the following years of the Islamic revolution in Iran. The rise and fall of the regimes is described as a dual process of institutionalization and de-institutionalization, and the political and technical drivers of institutional change are identified. Also theory and policy implications of the study are discussed.
