Tiivistelmä:Just-in-time purchasing is discussed. The importance of the method in international competition is emphasized. Previous works on JIT are reviewed. Critical elements of the purchasing process are described. A research study was conducted with a Fortune 500 firm in the electronics industry. Research methodology is outlined. Barriers to acceptance of the JIT purchasing philosophy by purchasing personnel are highlighted. Basic categories of objections are discussed. The role of the suppliers is examined. JIT is compared with traditional purchasing management. The importance of translating JIT philosophy into marketing, purchasing, and manufacturing practice is emphasized. Advantages are summarized.
