| Tiivistelmä: | The Pacific region will be an increasingly dynamic element in the international economy and in global politics. However, political stability will be essential if the region's potential is to be realized. Australia needs to make positive responses to the changes that are occurring. It is clear, however, that its social and political systems are not sufficiently flexible to facilitate the economic, institutional and technological innovation needed for effective participation and gain from the region's dynamism. A basic cultural shift toward Asia and the Pacific is required. |
