| Tiivistelmä: | The early 1980s saw considerable change in the institutional framework within which collective bargaining takes place in Britain. This period was also one of fundamental economic change. These changes have potentially far-reaching consequences for Britain's unions. In the paper changes in union wage differentials in Britain between 1980 and 1984 are examined on the basis of two comparable establishment-level data-sets. Despite the changes, the mean differential shows little change between these two years, and what there is attributable to compositional changes, such as the shift away from the manufacturing sector and the downward shift in the establishment size distribution. |
