Tiivistelmä: | This article reviews the literature on technological change by casting new light on the pattern, causes and consequences of English mechanical innovation. A case study of innovation in plough design during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries is offered and a number of questions are asked: 1) Which geographical areas were most innovative, and what were their characteristics? 2) What was the role of infrastructure and local institutions? 3) Who was adopting technologically advanced ploughs? |
