| Tiivistelmä: | The necessity of lifelong learning of adults as a consequence of scientific and technological progress is highlighted. Older employees' ability to learn is discussed. Results of empirical studies are presented. Some problems of learning in adult life are examined (problems of retraining, forgetfulness, lack of motivation and difficulties of adjustment). A simple model of human information processing is provided for a better understanding of the characteristics of learning in mature years. A number of learning strategies are mentioned and briefly reviewed which can help in overcoming difficulties. At last the question of individual differences is addressed and many important observations are made. |
