| Tiivistelmä: | Efficient variant management is required to resolve the dilemma that variants enhance customer benefits, but lead to increased costs. Some ways of improving capacity utilization are reviewed. It is shown that horizontal integration has a decisive role in cost reduction. Six important strategies of complexity reduction are listed and examined. The right time of specification of variants as well as market entry is considered. An effective way of segmentation of manufacturing is presented. Some characteristics of flexibly automated manufacturing are discussed. |
