Tiivistelmä:Article deals with the problems and importance of introducing electronic commerce into the business financial area.It emphasizes sizes a strategic role of currently on-going project in Slovenia - Modernisation of the Slovenian payment system run by the Slovenian Payment Agency, for broader usage of EDI and its development in Slovenia. Trends of the future development of telecommunications, information system and the role of electronic commerce in this process are presented in the article as well.Importance of the electronic commerce in the financial processes for concluding the whole business cycle electronically and main reasons for its slow adoption in day to day business practices are emphasized.Security issues are critical for successful implementation of EDI in financial processes.Computer systems, when EDI is in question, have to open wider towards outer world what presents a serious threat to the information systems of banks and other financial institutions.At the same time there are already available appropriate, efficient and reliable mechanisms and security procedures which provide very high protection against any criminal acts and which are also explained in the article. Possibilities, requirements and conditions for the introduction of electronic commerce in the financial processes in Slovenia are presented at the end of the article.All conclusions are based on the research about introducing EDI into the financial processes of small business in Slovenia, which was conducted in January 1995.
