| Tiivistelmä: | The paper examines the impact of using information technolo- gy on decision making in firms. We develop an economic framework that uses both transaction costs and time as model parameters. This framework then serves as a basis for a si- mulation model, which compares centralized and decentralized decision making processes, using an example from investment theory. The application of the simulation model reveals two major results. New developments in the field of communica- tion networks are likely to increase the share of decentra- lized forms of decision making. On the other hand, progress in processor technology favors the centralization of deci- sion making. |
