Tiivistelmä: | An optimal spotmarket price of an average kilowatt-hour sold would just equal the long-run marginal cost of producing it. It is argued, that free enterprise real-world spot markets in electric power will do worse than regulation and administration of marginal cost prices and central planning and coordination of supply system aimed at economic efficiency. Spot markets for electric power will not perform the miracles that perfect markets perform in the economic theory textbook because of technological characteristics that distinguish electric power from commodities. Large players would easily be able to exercise powers to increase profits at the expense of efficiency. |
