| Tiivistelmä: | This paper discusses the impact of ownerhip and contractual choises on efficiency in the French urban public tarnport sector. The authors test existing beliefs that ownership regime and contractual practices are key determinants of performance, by using an original panel data covering 135 different French urban transport networks over the period 1995-2002 and by applying a stochastic frontier methodology. The results suggest that public transport operators depend on the ownerhip regime and the type of contract governing their transactions. |
