| Tiivistelmä: | Despite the deadline set by the European Community's 1985 white paper for completing the single market, there was no big bang on January 1, 1993, and sectors as diverse as chemicals, automobiles and telecommunications are still waiting for elimination of the remaining barriers to intra-Community trade. As a result, industry in Europe still suffers from enormous competitive handicaps in terms of higher energy, communications and labour costs than in most other parts of the world and certainly than in the USA and Japan. |
