| Tiivistelmä: | An overview of the past philosophies of econometrics is given. Econometrics must consequently reflect adjustment paths toward possibly changing equilibrium positions. Econometricians have had to draw on published statistical data as the raw material for estimation and testing procedures. Econometricians took over the inference procedures of classical statistics. Applied econometrics has contributed to quantifying many aspects of industrialized economies. Suggestions for the future include the lines of communication between econometric theorists and applied econometricians; the balance between theoretical and applied econometrics; and the resolution of doctrinal disputes. |
