Tiivistelmä:If he managed a stand-alone business, Brown's task would be difficult: turning around an organization with a USD 1.6 billion annual budget and more than 36, 000 employees. But since the company that Brown heads is the New York City police department, his job is very difficult. Brown readily acknowledges the pressure that makes his job an enormous managerial challenge. Brown's solution is "community policing" - a return to the days of the cop on the beat that requires a change in the way the department is organized and operates. Some of the principles apply equally well to business and policing. As the total change process gets under way, Brown has a clear measure of the program's success.
