| Tiivistelmä: | The timing of market entries and the relative positions of companies in the research and development competition in technology-intensive markets are very important for the success of new capital goods. This proposition was to be tested with a sample of 231 companies of the mechanical engineering industry. At the centre of interest are synergy variables product/technology variables and market/customer variables. It can be claimed that the choice of a leader or follower behavior depends on the given situation. A general preference for the leader position in the mechanical engineering industry is not appropriate. |
