| Tiivistelmä: | The remarkable success of French car manufacturers in export markets over the past 30 years has erased the memory of just how difficult these companies found it to conquer the international market. It was only as a result of state intervention and coercion that Renault, Peugeot, Citroen and Simca began exporting on a large scale. Initially they suffered terrible failures in North America. But it was by drawing on the lessons of these failures and developing new strategies for the international market based on formulae for success that they become the major exporters today. This look back into history provides comfort at a time when French trade problems remain a major worry. |
